How many times do you text a day? Do you use shorthand, or texting lingo? If you do, you probably have used that lingo in your writing at one point whether it was accidental or not. Many students are using this language in their everyday writing, and teachers are getting annoyed with this problem. But some people don't think that texting and academic writing is a problem, rather than it is helping students write more.

ReplyDeleteFor a specialized audience like the readers of young scholars in writing, you need to situate your paper in an academic conversation. This is currently working in a public conversation, and I notice that you don't have any credible scholarly peer reviewed sources in your bibliography, just magazines, blogs, and newspapers. More than half of your sources need to be scholarly. The most useful conversation would be that raised by Baron: the idea that technological change changes writing.
